Okay, here’s the fourth and last reading from Stay. It’s 22 minutes of action baby, *action*:

The one embarrassment is the Spanish. It’s probably written all wrong, and pronounced badly but, hey, if you can just glide by that the rest is fun. No angst. Guaranteed. Enjoy.
And, trust me, it’s a shedload more fun to listen to than the homophobic crap I put up with last night during the televised VP debate. (My veins stuck out when Biden and Palin agreed–agreed–that homophobia is okay. And the audience tittered. Because, you know, discrimination is so very, very amusing.)
Thanks again for loading these.>>I lasted all of 30 seconds last night for the debate. I was afraid if I stayed with it, I would throw something through my television. I absolutely detest the pandering, however I try to remain focused on the fact that the Democrats must win this election. That does not excuse the bullshit.
rory, you’re welcome.
Your Spanish pronunciation is like my English: nothing to worry about. This was indeed a fun listen. And yes, every debate I’ve tried watching has been depressing at best. I’ll just <>Stay<> in this cocoon.
karina, oh, I’m guessing your English pronounciation is better by far than my Spanish :) But, hey, this isn’t a competition. As long as it makes a rough kind of sense, as long as I didn’t say something like ‘the cuckoo ate the darning needle’, then I’m okay with it.>>I’d never seen Sarah Palin on TV before last night–all I’d seen was Tina Fey–so I watched the beginning of the VP debate as a kind of test: what would the ‘average’ voter make of her the first time. I reset my IQ by drinking 3 large beers (European, of course) then turned on TV. I managed 35 minutes. Tina Fey is more fun.
Nah, you only said ‘the iguana likes bananas’. It made sense, you know… with the woman being scared and all. It’s always reassuring to know that fruit makes lizards happy.>>And I had to laugh at the IQ-resetting through beer. In World of Warcraft, you do just that. Get drunk and your <>Intellect<> drops but your <>Stamina<> goes up and you see other players and non-players as being much easier to kill. I wonder if the latter also happened to you while watching the debate.
“Oh darn there you guys go again wishing for that ol’ equality in marriage thing when you should be thinking baaackwards instead of forward…” >>Yep, I am going to go live in the trees… :)
The sad thing is – not only is Tina Fey more fun, she’d probably even do a better job….>>Just my opinion of course.
I think a bloody sheep would do a better job. How many times in the last century has a VP had to step into the top job? Lots. This country is considering taking a very real risk…
I watched the entire debate and much of it made me grit my teeth.>>My biggest fear is that she’ll get elected and then be up for the presidential election in 4 or 8 years. By that time the nation will be “used” to her and she’ll know just enough to be really dangerous.>>And did it bother anyone else to see her pregnant 17 year old holding Sarah’s infant son? I mean, when my kids were babies I knew how to have a conversation, shake hands, make bottles, all kinds of things one-handed when I had an infant, cuz, you know, you don’t get to hold them forever.>>As Joe Biden could tell her.
Nope. Hillary would kick her arse.
I think the titter came when she pointed out his round about way of saying what she said. >>Meanwhile, as a man who’s been married three times, I thought I caught a glimmer of a distinction being made between a civil marriage where all marriages are equal and a religious marriage where each religion gets to design its own ceremony and believe it’s forever.>>Marriages(I’ve used a JP, and a judge, and a preacher)like children, get too much credit for free.>>What scalded me about this debate was when she claimed that she and McCain support equal rights for women and both the moderator and Biden let her slide.>>What I liked was all those winks, and the catch in Biden’s throat. Oh, the obviousness of the coaching from both sides.>>I think Nicola needs to roust those Demos off their asses and into a real knockdown and dragout.>>Punch them in their white hankies. Point out that spending trillions in a war is not winning, that just because they won’t report accurately the civilian deaths doesn’t mean they don’t happen.
I took some time from my evening to listen to the Friday Audio. My house was quiet and my pup was in the kitchen. When she heard your voice she began to “sing”. (I don’t mean that in a derisive way. She does this when she is excited.) >>My three cats all came into my office and settled in various places. I had a very long day at work and your reading, even though full of not so relaxing content, lead me to put my head down on my desk, close my eyes, and just listen beyond the story. >>The timbre and cadence to your voice,no matter the words,is very calming. I drifted into a sound sleep about ten minutes into the reading. I woke up refreshed and went on with ther things I had planned.>>Perhaps I will string all the audio readings together and have my own relaxation CD. :) Any plans to read from ALWAYS? (or have you and I somehow missed it?) >>I must admit, though, of all three Aud books, The Blue Place, for me, is a stand alone…
rhbee1, yes, the titter was at the candidates, but can you imagine an audience tittering if they’d been talking about racial equality or disability rights? I’m really tired of women and queers being punching bags and footballs, just sick of it.>>linda, glad you enjoyed it. No, you haven’t missed the <>Always<> reading. I haven’t recorded one. But I have two I’m mulling over, one long, one short. I just have to get it together instead of staring at the rain…
N,>>Have you and Kelley thought about reading some thing from each other’s?>>*********>>The strange thing about Palen for me is that my initial expectations were that she would speak freely and honestly. She does the former but avoids the question too often to be called honest. But then remember, the odds are incredible she along with Obama would be playing for it all but so is the pressure not to misspeak, act, or even imply. >>They are convinced that that is the only way we can be swayed, I guess.
<>rhbee1<>, I love the idea of cross-readings.
rhbee1, karina, Kelley and I have talked every now and again of doing a reading together, kind of like a script table reading, reading different characters but it never occurred to me to read hers or let her read mine.>>What do you like about the idea?
I’m curious to find out what your voices will bring out in each other’s pieces. We’re reading people’s poetry anonymously in one of my classes, and it’s so interesting to hear my stuff as read by another. And just the way people interpret intention and pauses. Sometimes they’ll read a question where there’s an affirmation. It’s, I guess, audding (audio version of vidding)?
karina, okay, good to know.
