I am a sucker, an absolute sucker, for this kind of film. Swords, ponies, and battles, fair maids, trees, and rivers: what’s not to like? The only down side I can foresee is lack of jokes: neither Crowe nor Scott are known for their humour. So forget Alan Rickman howling “Cancel Christmas!” (Don’t know what I’m talking about? You’re not a Robin Hood fan.) Still, there is that great thumping music. We only have to wait until May…

Ooo. me too! I love it, though I'm not a huge Russel Crowe fan. And though it was more kitch than blood, I still loved the BBC Robin Hood. Fun to watch with my kid. Can't wait for a dark and dirty version.
I read somewhere that Crowe wore spanx during the shoot. Don't know if it's true, but it sure puts a different spin on men in tights.
Double Wow! I'm there.
I dunno, I'm not a sucker for this kind of film, and I'll probably pass at least until the DVD release. But if you want a dark and dirty version of Robin Hood, there's always “Robin and Marian”, which remains one of my favorite movies. Good script (James Goldman), fine direction (Richard Lester), wonderful stars (Sean Connery, Audrey Hepburn). Which is probably why this trailer made me think “Haven't I been here before?”
promiscuous, I loved 'Robin and Marian'. I don't think there's a Robin Hood I haven't seen.
Alan Rickman totally hijacked that version of Robin Hood. Which saved it, imo.
This one does appear to be more dour, but the combination of Crowe, Blanchett, and Scott is promising. Thanks for the heads up : )
nicola, I should have known. :)
Cathy, he did. It was great. And you're welcome.
Promiscuous, yep, if it's got swords and ponies, I've seen it at least once. I have a weakness.
