Here’s the trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, a ‘ballet thriller’ starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis as competing ballerinas. They kiss. Sadly, it looks unconvincing–but we’ll know more Sept. 1 when the film opens at the Venice Film Festival.
(Thanks, J.S.)
I’d just like to see a film in which two women kiss because they, y’know, like each other. No coming out angst, no I-really-want-to-kill-you-so-I’ll-fuck-you, no competition, no performance for boyfriends. Just a Well now, aren’t you luscious? moment.
Any suggestions?

FYI, I haven’t forgotten about the promised post on the LLF Emerging Voices Retreat. It’s coming soon.
Not sure what you mean by “coming out angst,” but I enjoyed The Gymnast.
Someone on AfterEllen, I think, described it as Single White Female with ballet pumps. There's a time and a place for that (just about), but one does wish that sort of film wouldn't get called a lesbian plot all the time….
Hmm, a little too angsty for me I think. If you find movies with the 'Well, now, aren't you luscious?' moment, do tell.
I don't know – it looks like it has a lot of potential for being extremely unpleasant to me. I hate it when they make the lesbian the crazy bad guy. Not sure if that's what they're doing here, but maybe. Looks like some beautiful dance footage.
He is a talented director, but Requiem for a Dream was the most horrible film experience I've ever had. So unpleasant that I could only ask myself afterwards why I had not left and waited outside for my friend. Have you seen it?
DianneorDi, The Gymnast sounds like coming out angst, though nicely done. I'll check it out. Thank you.
Jennifer, nope, haven't seen it. I suspect I won't be watching this one, either. Another Evil Dyke from Hell movie, sigh.
Hmm, “loving annabelle” comes to mind… Has a hot scene and is without any of the coming out stuff. There is the whole 'it being illegal' part though.
Nicola — The Gymnast and Vier Minuten are the only “lesbian” movies that I own. Both are beautiful (and ugly and hopeful) in their own ways. The Gymnast has the best end credits ever. Hope you enjoy.
Nicola – there's an Australian film called “Love and Other Catastrophes” I can't help thinking that you'd like. Not sure if you have seen it. It was made a while back and has aged a little (but not much) Very indie. Contains one of those moments you speak of, one of those “well, aren't you lucious” moments. Anyway, if you have not seen it and are interested I'd be happy to send you a copy. Little Aussie films might be difficult to find in Seattle I fear.
Veronica, no, I haven't seen it. I'll take a look at Netflix, see if it's available there. Thanks for the rec.
