I’m sick, so I’m gone for a few days. Feel free to talk about anything you like here: books we should read, jokes we should know, films, music, new discoveries. Especially books. What should I read?
So talk about anything. Anything except my fucking health, which I want to be distracted from not dwelt upon, y’know?
How about some vintage public television that takes SF, fantasy, and comic books seriously, including doing a whole episode on queer characters in SF: Prisoners of Gravity
You're probably all up on British TV, and I suspect our tastes don't often intersect, but here goes:
Try a four-episode series called Collision. Alyx and I thought it was well worth our time. At first it seems like a straightforward cop drama, but then it turns ambiguous and sneaky. It's available on Netflix (filed under Masterpiece Theater: Collision).
If only you were as easily entertained as this baby, I could drop off a stack of my bills for you to tear up – keep you happy for days…
I watched “The Social Network” a few nights ago. Felt really weird to go on FB afterwards. And I watched “Elena Undone” last night. I really thought it was going to be better. Long kiss notwithstanding, it was horrible. Cannot recommend it. My favorite new (to me) TV show I started watching a few weeks ago is “Justified”. Have you seen it?
I have no books to recommend that you wouldn't already know about. I am currently reading “Clan of the Cavebear” on my kindle because it was free or cheap a while back. Like it better than I thought I would.
David, cool.
Kelly, I enjoyed Collision thoroughly.
jennifer, K is a big fan of Justified. Me, shrug, I can take it or leave it. Still haven't seen TSN…
You might have already seen both of these, but the two videos that helped me keep my sanity during CFS woes recently were Post-It Love (a perfect 3-minute film) and Dylan Moran's Rejection.
This is cute: Goth (stereo) Types.

Feel better! I won't recommend The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, since you're under the weather, but it is an excellent book.
Oh dear, Elena Undone is coming this week via Netflix. I shall lower expectations.
Thanks, all. The vertigo seems to be resolving itself into a mind-splitting headache. Perhaps it was (ok, still is) just the Weirdest Migraine Ever. But I can still only look at the screen for a couple of minutes at a time.
Twitter is v. useful in this regard…
Feel better quickly. The this faithful reader is eagerly awaiting Hild (& other products of your genius/effort).
ObGeographicCoincidence: The Lady of the Manners, headmistress of Gothic Charm School, is a FOAF (or perhaps a FOAFOAF) & also a Seattle resident. (But you probably already knew that.)
