I watched the Season 6 (or 32) premiere of Dr Who last night. My first Dr Who in years. Wow, the pace has changed! Talk about in medias res. Whap, whap, whap: the writers/producers were certainly not catering to the lowest common denominator. Lovely! But the special effects haven’t got anymore sophisticated (sigh), the theme music is quite dreadful, and the UK actors definitely need dialogue coaches to improve their US accents.
But, oh, what fun! And with a definite emotional kernel. I will be tuning in next week. Go watch it.
It's quite funny to be ahead of you guys for a change! It was odd having DW set in the US – not sure they've done that before. Of course, we won't notice the all-too-English US accents, though! Brings to mind the 'brother' of Daphne in Frasier. She was thoroughly Mancunian, and he was from the dreadful school of American-cockney. Dearie me…
Esmeralda, I've noticed that UK actors, when trying to do American accents, end up going with southern accents. US actors trying English accents end up with either Etonian or a weird kind of South End.
